As if record snow falls and great weather weren’t motivation enough for backcountry adrenaline junkies, the Banff Mountain Film Festival is arriving at the Chaba Theatre on Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival collects the best mountain and adventure themed films from around the globe and has become an international success. Jasper is one of the earlier stops for the festival on its world tour.
Each host location chooses a selection of films from the film festival. Some of the award winning films from the festival include Committed 2: Walk of Life, which captured the Alpine Club of Canada Award for best climbing film, and Finding Farley, winner of the Grand Prize award. Finding Farley traces the journey of Canmore residents Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison and their two-year-old son Zev and dog Willow as they seek complete a 5,000 journey by sailing, portaging and paddling to find Farley Mowat at his Nova Scotia home.
“Stories aren’t so much written or created as they are released, expressing what’s been there all along,” said Heuer.
In other film news, the Jasper film club will screen Cairo Time at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. The romantic drama stars Patricia Clarkson. |
