Fans of the clarinet are in for some musical magic this weekend. Arts Jasper presents the Don Ross Duo in concert this Saturday (March 25) at the United Church. The musicians will begin their performance shortly after 7:30 p.m. and for the low, low price of $10 you can bear witness to their masterful melody-making.

Clarinetist Don Ross and pianist Janna Olson are both Alberta-educated musicians based in Edmonton. Ross leads the Saint Crispin Chamber Ensemble, a group that has been broadcast frequently on CBC Radio and has recorded several albums. Ross has appeared both as a soloist and as an orchestra member, performing with the Edmonton and Prince George symphonies, the Calgary Opera and the Citadel Theatre Orchestra. With music degrees from the Universities of Alberta and Toronto, and a Master’s from Chicago’s Northwestern, Ross is also a noted composer and is known for his work as part of the Edmonton Composers’ Concert Society.

Olson, meanwhile, earned her undergraduate musical qualifications at Three Hills’ Prairie Bible College and the University of Lethbridge before continuing on to earn a Master’s degree in piano pedagogy and performance from the University of Alberta. Having played the piano since the age of four, Olson has performed with many chamber groups and choirs, both as a accompanist and as a vocalist. She currently teaches at the King’s University College and the University of Alberta.

Tickets for the concert are available at the door, or in advance by calling Helen Schwarz at 852-3964.
