Everyone was a winner at the Canada Day parade this year, even those participants who didn’t bother to sign up beforehand.
A three-judge panel made up of Adrian Dezina, June Kroker and Heather Van Pelt determined that the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre’s beach party themed float was the best overall, while they presented the Friends of Jasper’s stuffed creations with a Best Theme prize for service groups.
“I think it was an excellent parade this year and the most astonishing thing was the amount of work put into the floats,” said Lauren Korogonas, who coordinated the promenade through Jasper’s downtown.
“It was very difficult to judge, because they were all so good,” she said, adding that the panel of judges endeavoured to reward every entry, because as we all learned in elementary school, we are all special in our own unique way.
Herewith, the remaining results:
Best Theme - Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Mountain Park Lodges, Friends of Jasper, Marmot Basin
Best Costumes- Decore Hotels, Lions Club of Jasper
Most Artistic - White Water Rafting, Alpine Village, Jasper Municipal Library
Most Enthusiastic- Jasper Inn, Tags, Ecole Desroches
Most Original- Jasper Tramway, Parks Canada
Best Costumes- Lions Club of Jasper
Awards were also presented to the bands and acts that participated, and Korogonas wanted to make a particular mention of Fred and Rose Wall’s 1917 Dodge, the oldest vehicle in the parade, and driven by the couple, who were celebrating their wedding anniversary on Canada Day. |
