For a bunch of punks, the members of Sonance are pretty community minded. The local musicians have organized yet another fundraising concert, this time to support HIV West Yellowhead.
“We’ve not done this for HIV West Yellowhead before, but we have for the food bank, so we’re just trying to spread it around,” said band member Tom Deagle.
Their previous charity concert raised nearly $200 plus assorted food items for the food bank, so Deagle and his bandmates are hoping for a similar result for this outing, which is set for Tuesday night (July 25).
Sonance won’t be the only Jasper band performing. School-aged punk act Something Original will grace the stage, as will The Johnsons, an Edmonton group with close ties to Sonance. In addition to these three Alberta bands, Stowaway from Kamloops and Burn the Eight-Track from Winnipeg will also be performing.
“The Johnsons knew about them, they were touring together across Western Canada so it worked out for them to stop in Jasper,” Deagle said.
Tickets for the five-band showcase cost $12 per person, and doors for the show at the McCready Centre will open at 6 p.m. The first band should hit the stage half an hour later, Deagle expects. |
