It seems Fred Eaglesmith just can’t get enough of Jasper. The frequent visitor will once again be stepping onto the stage at the Legion on July 31, with special guests the Fabulous Ginn Sisters and the Re-Mains.
Eaglesmith is touring to support his newest release, 6 Volts, which will be available at the show or online at www.fredeaglesmith.com. The album is Eaglesmith’s 19th, and has been released in a limited edition format that was created on the road. Only 1,000 copies are available. The album will soon be reprinted in a regular edition package.
Eaglesmith’s work is now being covered by country superstars such as Toby Keith, Cowboy Junkies, James King and Ralph Stanley II. He’s also written songs for Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert.
“People get a little possessive when somebody like Miranda Lambert records one of my songs,” said Eaglesmith earlier this year in a statement on his website. “They’ll tell me, ‘We knew you first!’ In Canada, they’ll say, ‘You’re not getting too big for us now, are you?’ But Americans are always excited for you to do well.”
Those requests aren’t slowing down either – it seems this Canadian gem is being noticed in Nashville, the heart of the country music industry.
“I’m getting calls from some of the heavy hitters in Nashville who want me to come write with them,” Eaglesmith said. “They’re so confused about the state of country music these days, and I’m so whacked out that I’m like, ‘This is fun!’ Country is just in such a conundrum that they’re grasping at straws. And where I used to not be a good straw to grasp, now I am.”
His fans cross many genres, as he draws from folk, bluegrass, country, rock, gospel and spoken word, earning him Juno awards, spots on the U.S. Top 10 list (with his 2008 release Tinderbox) and a nomination for the Canadian Polaris prize. He is the only Canadian musician to write a number one bluegrass hit on the U.S. charts. For more on Eaglesmith, visit his website at www.fredeaglesmith.com.
Eaglesmith will not be alone for his Jasper stop. The artist is once again bringing along the Fabulous Ginn Sisters, made up of Tiffani and Britt Ginn. The girls will open the show and then step behind the microphones once again to back up Eaglesmith. The sisters have been travelling with Eaglesmith for the past year and a half, and he even produced their most recent album titled You Can’t Take a Bad Girl Home. Also joining the jam-packed night at the Legion is the Re-Mains, an Australian country-rock band that has been collecting fans on both sides of the world. The band is continuing to forge ahead in their relationship with Canada, while promoting their newest effort, Inland Sea. Head over to www.re-mains.com for more on the band, who will also headline a show at the Legion on July 30.
