The Guelph Youth Singers will be visiting Jasper as part of an exchange trip with the Edmonton Children’s Choir, and will perform at the Jasper United Church on April 27. 

The 27 singers will be taking part in a short trip to see the Rocky Mountains, and what better place than Jasper to see the famous mountain range. As part of their tour, they will be performing their African, traditional choral and folk tunes, along with dancing. The choir is conducted by Linda Beaupre, and accompanied by Ken Gee on the piano. 

The exchange trip is sponsored by the Society of Educational Exchanges and Visits Canada (SEVEC), a national society that provides youth with the opportunity to experience the country through educational exchanges. SEVEC has been organizing trips for youth in Canada for 75 years, and has helped 350,000 youth discover their country. 

The two choirs, The Guelph Youth Singer and the Edmonton Children’s Choir have been paired up to visit one another. The youth will explore each other’s communities, participate in workshops and tour the Columbia Icefield and Jasper. 

The choirs will each be hosting larger concerts in Edmonton and Guelph. The proceeds will support the Stephen Lewis Foundation, that raises money to help the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. 

The Edmonton Children’s Choir travelled to Guelph from April 6 to 12, and the Guelph Youth Singers will be in the Edmonton area from April 26 to May 1. 

Donations to be accepted at the door in Jasper will go towards travel expenses for the two choirs. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Jasper United Church.
