Fillies, Fiddles and Fellas is set to entertain Jasper on April 8, and Hinton on April 9 with a night of local music spanning many different genres.
The show will feature three groups – the Blue Diamond Quartet, Bow Geste Fiddlers and Pilgrims Octet – featuring local performers hailing from Hinton and Jasper. This is the first time all three have gathered together to perform a single concert. Bob Udell, one of the performers and organizers of the event, says all the groups have worked hard to create a great show featuring music that will satisfy almost any fan.
“If you spend so much time pulling all this music together, it’s good to present it in a couple different places,” Udell said.
The musical styles will range from jazz, to blues, folk, doo wop and more. Udell said each group brings something to the table that is familiar, yet outside of the current decade.
“It’s more music from the last two or three decades,” he said.
The Bow Geste Fiddlers are led by Jasperite Monika Schaffer, and is made up of her students. The group has been working hard in the past few years to get to a level where they could perform in front of an audience. That time has come, and the group will perform together in an effort to keep their love of the fiddle alive.
“This is how they get together and keep their interest in fiddle playing,” Udell said.
The fiddlers are joined by a few other musicians, including Udell, to add more depth to the performance. Udell said it should be a great performance because there will be many fiddlers adding layers to the sound.
Both concerts will begin at 7:30 at their respective venues in Jasper on April 8 and Hinton on April 9. Posters are up all over Jasper with information on venues. |
