The Edmonton Girls Choir is performing a free concert at Jasper United Church 7:30 pm Saturday.

Program for the one-hour concert includes a variety of songs, from “Sing for Joy!” a duet from a Handel oratorio, to a setting of an old Welsh song “All Through the Night;” from “Cantique de Jean Racine,” by Gabriel Faure, to three songs by contemporary English composer Bob Chilcott.

In addition, members of the choir will showcase their talents on piano, violin and voice.

Founded 13 years ago by Anne McIntyre and led by John Weibe, the choir has a proud tradition of performing and winning awards across Canada.

The choir has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Richard Eaton Singers, Da Camera Singers, Alberta Baroque, Alberta Ballet, Edmonton Opera and Opera Nuova.

Wiebe studied at Wilfred Laurier University, the University of Alberta and in Vienna. He is founder and director of AbendMusik Ensemble and director of the Edmonton Youth and Children’s Choir program. Under his leadership, choirs have won numerous awards and he is a regular clinician and adjudicator for choirs across Canada.
