Jason Collett can’t remember if he’s ever performed in Jasper – don’t take that as a slight to the community, it’s just that his career has spanned the ‘90s and he seems to have misplaced some memories.
“My apologies for being a cliché, but the ‘90s are a bit of a haze. I’m convinced I have early on-set Alzheimer’s, the more specific rock’n’roll version of which is termed ‘Sometimer’s,’” Collett joked.
Collett will be travelling through Jasper on Nov. 21 for a stop at the Legion in support of his new album Pony Tricks, an album that he describes as a re-interpretation of his previous work, with a few new tunes packed in. The tour will be a solo-acoustic journey through his past albums.
“It’s a stripped down affair and is meant to be a companion piece to the tour,” Collett said of the album.
Pony Tricks is an album specifically for his fans, he said.
“For years, folks at my solo shows have asked if I had a disc of this sort, and so I’m just getting around to delivering.”
This isn’t the only album he’s delivered this year – Collett has been hard at work pumping out three releases in 2010. Before Pony Tricks he launched Rat A Tat Tat with an accompanying EP To Wit To Woo.
“Dude, I’m on fire!” Collett said of the busy year.
The Jasper stop is part of a cross-Canada tour. This will be Collett’s first Canadian solo tour, and he’s excited to finally have a chance to do it.
“It’s naturally a very different thing, and I feel real lucky to get to do both,” he said.
The solo tour is more of a crowd friendly performance, one where Collett is able to show a different side of himself.
“Ultimately, solo is a more intimate affair,” he said. “You get a different side of me, a different side of the songs, more stories and more beer all to myself.”
Collett said the show will be for anyone deeply into music, who hopes to have a show to brag about to their friends the next day. He encourages people to come out and see the opening act – Al Tuck.
“Al is, hands down, the greatest songwriter of my generation, so make sure you come in time to catch his set.” |
