The Bonnie Doon Trio, of Edmonton, are bringing their classical music to the United Church on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

The trio play a variety of styles while keeping under the classical banner. Janna Olsen, pianist for the group, said the show will be enjoyable for many different music fans.

“I think all of us have a real interest in playing as much variety as possible,” Olsen said of the group, which also includes Aron Au on violin and viola, and Julie Amundsen on the cello.

Attendees can expect to hear fiddle, tango and classical composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi and Piazzolla.

“I think it’s a concert that appeals to all ages,” Olsen said. “It really spans about 300 years of music.”

Olsen said the string players, Au and Amundsen grew up playing music with each other, and have a great stage presence together.

“The string players have a really unique rapport.”

The band formed when the three met, while attending graduate studies in music at the University of Edmonton. They named the group after the area of the city they lived in, Bonnie Doon. The band has a number of members that occasionally fill in, but the three that will be performing in Jasper are the most constant. This is the band’s second stop in Jasper.

Tickets for the show will be available at the door. Arts Jasper is hosting the event, and will be selling their four-punch passes for a number of events to be held later this year. More information can be found at the Bonnie Doon Trio show.
