The Jasper Dance Program is embarking on its 10th season on Sept. 13, following registration on Sept. 8.

The program has a variety of dance styles, from Bollywood to ballet. Instructor Nicole Koebel is joined by two other instructors to teach kids aged two-and-a-half to adult at the Jasper Activity Centre.

The season starts in September and runs until December, when a recital will be held on Dec. 12. The program starts up again in January and continues into the spring, when a year-end concert is held.

“The concerts are great,” Koebel said. “The hall is packed with the best audience you could have.”

The concerts are held at the activity centre in the multi-purpose hall.

“I have a lot of students that take dance year after year,” Koebel said, adding that the program draws anywhere from 60 to 100 students each year. “Lots of people get involved.”

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Koebel said they will pull out all the stops for the year-end concert in the spring. Besides the two local concerts, the dancers perform at a number of venues throughout town. Koebel says she has a few dancers that return each year that are competitive. Those students perform at competitions all over Alberta and B.C.

Adult classes will begin on Sept. 20. Koebel said they have a new class that combines pilates, belly dancing and zumba, a type of Latin dance, for a fun fitness program.

“There are some new things coming up,” she said.

Registration has already taken place, but Koebel said prospective dancers can email her at nkoebel@telusplanet.net for more information.
