Jasperites will be treated to a little taste of free folk this week with Lily Come Down and the Hillbilly Freakshow playing Friday Feb. 27 at the Whistle Stop Pub.
The event is brought to town by the Jasper Heritage Folk Festival Society in an effort to maintain a constant presence in town.
Joanna Chapman-Smith is one of two lead singers in the Vancouver-based quintet and said the band describes their music as “feisty folk.”
“We’re all about harmonies and nice grooves. We’ve got some numbers where you can get up and move and we’ve got some numbers where you can sit back and relax,” she said. “It’s feel good music.”
Lily Come Down, who have been together for three years, has two lead singers and is a true “folk set up” according to Chapman-Smith, with a banjo, violin, bass, drums and guitar being passed around between the five members.
The show will be the first time the band has come to Jasper to play; they are excited to play with Jasper locals the Hillbilly Freakshow. |
