Last Arts Jasper event of the year this weekend

Jasperites will have the opportunity to tantalize their tastebuds with some classical music from a piano, violin and cello trio from the Banff Centre on March 21 at Jasper United Church.

The evening will have a relaxed vibe, according to Keith Kirchoff, who plays piano in the trio.

“It’ll be pretty informal, laid back, we’ll talk a little bit about the pieces before we play them, a little bit of history and background which is especially designed for those people who don’t know a lot about this music,” said Kirchoff.

The trio will play some Bach, Ornstein and Haydn to give the audience a range of classical music 

“The music is very, very fun and you’ve got a little bit of everything,” said Kirchoff, adding the variety will give the audience a chance to hear some different music.

There will be “some older music in the Bach, which is really quite charming, and you have witty, fun kind of music with Haydn and with Ornstein you have neo-romantic, very beautiful, very melodic, very lush,” he said. “We have a mixture of solo violin music and cello and piano music and then some trios.”

The members of the trio all hail from different points on the globe but are all currently in residence at the Banff Centre, which is an opportunity for artists to study their instruments “away from the stresses and distractions of everyday normal life,” said Kirchoff

Kirchoff said the time at the centre allows artists to “re-find” themselves as well as take part in a range of collaborative work or time just to study their own solo work. 

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at the door for $15.
