The Jasper Folk ‘n’ Blues Society is bringing back the haunting melodies of Lily Fawn to town on July 15.
Fawn first came to Jasper as part of the 12th annual Jasper Heritage Folk Festival in 2007, where she appeared with Hank Pine and the Meat Draw entourage. The show was a memorable one for many Jasperites.
“It’s always a treat to have these guys come to town,” said Scott Crabbe, the president of the Folk ‘n’ Blues Society. “I’m looking forward to hearing these lullabys sung from the stage, in what will be a dark and sexy-looking Legion.”
The society has been trying for years to bring Lily, Hank or Meatdraw back to Jasper, however the opportunity did not present itself until today. Crabbe said he has had many requests for their return.
“The long and short of it is that while we have tried over the past couple of years to book either Hank and Lily or Meat Draw, we never could seem to get our ducks in a row, until now, and really now is a pretty unique (and given the nature of these bands, ‘unique’ is really saying something) opportunity,” Crabbe said
Fawn describes herself as part deer, part girl comic book hero, and is touring the country to promote her first solo album entitled Lily’s Lullabies: Dark Songs About Dreaming, Death and Baby Snatching. She describes it as a wonderful mixture of David Lynch, Bjork and Godspeed You Black Emperor.
There will be a multimedia part of the evening, which will use projectors and other stage tricks to entice the audience.
Crabbe said much of the inspiration comes from the Twin Peaks soundtrack, which has an odd and creepy feel.
“It will be haunting. It will be a great way to spend a Thursday night,” Crabbe said.
The Folk ‘n’ Blues Society has been attracting more talent to Jasper, and Crabbe says he’s hearing many good things from artists.
“We treat our artists pretty good and that goes a long way. All of the people featured at the Brushfire say this is the highlight of their trip,” said Crabbe.
He also said the July 15 will be an excellent kick-off concert before the Wild Mountain Music Festival near Hinton.
Opening for Fawn will be Marco Boznich of the band Meat Draw.
This will once again be another first for venues that the Folk ‘n’ Blues Society has worked with as they take over the Legion for the evening prior (Thursday, July 15th) to the kick off for the annual Wild Mountain Music Festival on the Entrance Ranch near Hinton, a perfect warm up for the weekend. The cover is $7 and once again passes for the Wild Mountain Music Festival and the Robson Valley Music Festival will be up for grabs.
Tickets are only available at the door. |
