For those craving plies and pirouettes deep within the Rocky Mountains, relief is on the horizon.

Ballet Jorgen, a professional dance troupe based in Toronto, will be staging a performance of Cinderella on Feb. 26 at the Jasper Activity Centre. More than 150 tickets have already been sold.

The show, directed by Bengt Jorgen and set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, has received praise across the country, described as a ‘honey of a show’ and a ‘classic refreshed.’

Recognized for its warmth, humour and beauty, Ballet Jorgen Canada is the only major Canadian Ballet company with a repertoire of exclusively original works.

For two decades, the ballet has been promoting the work of its founders Bengt Jorgen and Susan Brodie.

The dance troupe specializes in delivering accessible performances, and does a great deal of work with youth groups.

On top of the performance, the dance troupe will be hosting a Ballet 101 talk at the activity centre. The talk will discuss training involved in becoming a dancer, as well as the sacrifices required. The ballerinas will also work with local dance troupes, teaching many of the finer points of ballet. Classes will occur on Feb. 27.

The tour is part of a western swing the company is taking through Alberta and British Columbia, which centres on smaller venues throughout the province.

Jasper is one of only 12 stops on the tour, and Arts Jasper organizers is anticipating a sell-out.

The ballet company is associated with George Brown College in Toronto and aims to introduce dance to children across the country.
