Imagine what you could do with $28,000.
Tamar Couture with Jasper Minor Sports certainly can.
“New team jerseys, for the teams that haven’t received them. Portable soccer nets... Hopefully host some hockey and soccer clinics... coaching clinics for hockey and soccer so coaches can update their knowledge,” she said.
Couture has arranged for Jasper Minor Sports to sell the 50/50 tickets at the March 7 Edmonton Oilers game against the New Jersey Devils.
The opportunity, which is granted to a different minor sports organization at each home game, means the organization walks away with half the money raised. If all the tickets are sold, that’s a cool $28,000.
For Couture it’s an ‘amazing’ opportunity because it’s such a huge fundraiser without a lot of effort.
“One gentleman who went this year, said the doors opened and he was swamped. He said, ‘I didn’t even have to say anything, they just knew what I was doing and then bought them.’”
Couture’s hoping the fact that the Oilers will be facing The New Jersey Devils and Martin Brodeur, who will have just played at the Olympics, means the game will be sold out and there will be lots of punters around to purchase the tickets.
For the organization to get the money, the only thing they must provide is the people power to sell the tickets, explained Couture, who almost has enough volunteers on board.
A bus will take all the volunteers there, who then sell the tickets in the concourse until the end of the second intermission. A select few will also count the stubs as they’re sold and correlate them with the money coming in.
All you need is a friendly smile, and a loud voice, said Couture.
“Anybody who is upbeat, excited, and wants to sell 50/50 tickets,” she said, “You have to be able to get your presence known, and have a cheerful loud voice.”
Couture estimates there are about 165 kids enrolled in hockey, and 300 in soccer through Jasper Minor Sports that the money will go to support.
