Spontaneous magical moments.
That’s what Lester Quitzau and his trio will be trying to create at the Jasper Inn next Thursday (Jan. 28).
Originally from Edmonton, Quitzau will be joined by Billy Hick on drums and Farley Scott on bass during his tour through Jasper.
Though Quitzau said the show would be ‘pretty mellow,’ he also said there would be a ‘good groove’ as well with a variety of acoustic and electric music.
The trio are touring on Quitzau’s latest album, The Same Light, which Quitzau said, “blends all the different influences and music that I’ve played, and been exposed to over the years.”
With a foundation of music streaming from blues artists such as Muddy Waters, and what Quitzau calls “the classic blues”, the Juno-Award winner said his influences are far more eclectic these days.
Jasperites can be sure they’re in for a creative evening, with Quitzau revelling in a “jazz approach... All the tunes are open to interpretation,” he said.
“A lot of it’s improvisation for sure, it’s the jazz approach to the music even though they’re roots and blues, there is always a solo section.”
This uniqueness is how Quitzau would sell a crowd. “It’s interesting really for anybody,” he said. “Music is a real gift for people to be a part of, and I really enjoy playing music so I just want to put it out there.”
With a nice quiet and intimate venue, Quitzau said it’s a good opportunity for people to ‘experience’ the music as the night proceeds.
Tickets for the show are available at Gravity Gear, Coco’s Cafe, and the Inn Restaurant for $20. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m. |
