The hallway in Hinton’s Parks West Mall was loaded with vendors celebrating women in general and charity specifically on Nov. 19.
The W.I.S.H. (Women Inspired Shopping Hinton) foundation describes itself as “an organization started in Hinton, Alberta by a few business-inspired women.” It held its first event on Sept. 24 and another on Oct. 29 before November’s event.
“All sharing a vision, we decided to come up with a monthly shopping event to showcase all the local home-based businesses while extending a helping hand to the Hinton Women’s Shelter,” the organization states. “All proceeds from the event itself will be donated to the shelter.”
There were numerous finely displayed booths at Saturday’s event, including Mia Bella’s beautiful natural wax candles, This ‘N’ That uniquely designed jewelry, Hand Maid all-natural organic soaps, and Lavish by Carrie handbags, jewelry and accessories.
Hinton’s Art Club also held an art show and sale as part of Saturday’s event.
“This is the first one I am part of along with the Hinton Art Club and I am proud to be part of it as it will be a continuing support to the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter Society,” said club member Leya Deschuymer.
Acrylics, latest technique prints, pastels, watercolours, oils mixed medias, encaustics and jewelry were displayed for sale and to peruse.
Many of these vendors can be contacted by email w.i.s.h.hinton@gmail.com.
The stated mandate for the Yellowhead women’s shelter is: “To provide short term shelter to women and their children fleeing violence or other women in crisis.” |
