Suspicious person investigation
Hinton RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance with a suspicious person investigation.
On Aug. 10, the Hinton RCMP detachment received a complaint from a resident regarding some suspicious activity. An unidentified male and female went to a valley residence under the company name of “Healthtek Enterprises Inc.”
The unidentified people solicited personal information from the resident under the guise of winning a prize if the home owner was single and home alone.
Representatives of the company returned to the residence a few days later stating that the resident had won a prize, and asked to enter the residence. When the representative of Healthtek Enterprises Inc. found that the homeowner was not alone, they said that the person had not won the prize and asked to use the resident’s telephone.
The RCMP have learned that Healthtek Enterprises Inc. has not purchased a valid Hinton business licence. The Hinton RCMP are reminding residents to take the following precautions when dealing with unknown persons:
• Do not let persons into your residence, especially if you are alone.
• Do not disclose personal information to unaccredited solicitors.
The Town of Hinton requires door-to-door sales persons to have a valid Town of Hinton business license and picture identification on their person. Please ensure that anyone attending your residence is able to provide these documents.
The Hinton RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the subjects of this investigation. The male is described as being approximately 25 years old, approximately 5’10”, clean shaven, approximately 150 lbs, with short, well kept brown hair and wearing business attire. The female is described as being approximately 5’4”, wearing jeans and a T-shirt. She has a darker complexion and long black hair worn in a ponytail. The representatives were driving a grey Toyota Matrix.
Residents can contact the Hinton RCMP detachment at 780-865-2455 or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) with any information pertaining to this incident.
