A grassroots project has really grown.
The Hinton Community Garden Society will celebrate the grand opening of a second community garden greenhouse next month.
Throughout the day there will be live entertainment, face painting, garden tours and a free barbecue lunch. Dignitaries including Mayor Glenn Taylor (or representative) will begin their speeches at 11:45 a.m. There will be a cake cutting at 12:30 p.m. and a workbee at 1:30 p.m., with an option to stay and help prepare the second greenhouse for planting in spring 2012.
Greenhouse founder Jerome Cranston says, “Since the plan was first dreamed up and presented to the public in January 2009, there has been so much community support. This is really a grassroots project thanks to thousands of hours of volunteer labour, and also support from our corporate sponsors and the Town of Hinton. It is so exciting to see the dream become a reality.”
The celebration begins on Sept. 3, at 11:30 a.m. The greenhouse and gardens are located behind Barrow Safety Services on Switzer Dr., between the Hinton Community Centre and Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre. Check out their website at www.hintoncommunitygreenhouse.org |
