The annual Hinton SPCA dog jog was a resounding success.
Held in early June, the dog jog has been taking place for over 22 years. SPCA President Debi Morin Huber said the event used to be managed at the provincial level, but about six years ago it became something that each individual SPCA took on themselves.
“This year, my co-worker Natasha McWalters and my daughter Elise Huber (Big Horn Vet Clinic) organized it with support from myself and another board member,” said Morin Huber. “It was nice to see young people get involved in the organizing.”
The purpose of the dog jog is to raise money for SPCA operations, food, vet bills and more.
“We had approximately 35 people (come out this year),” said Morin Huber. “Nine dogs of ours were rented out for $10, (which was a new idea) and we raised approximately $3,700.”
Morin Huber said that was an increase from last year.
“We are looking forward to attracting more people to this event, which was previously held in Jasper for (I think) three years. We raised up to $5,000 at one event there.”
Morin Huber said that unfortunately when the former Jasper organizer moved, the event fell by the wayside. The Hinton SPCA has advertised the dog jog in other communities, but has not been successful with their efforts so far. |
