Next month, indulge in calories with absolutely no guilt.

The Sawridge Inn and Conference centre is once again participating in Dessert Day, an event initiated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dessert Day in Jasper will be a day-long event, where staff from the Sawridge will donate their time to create and deliver tasty treats around the community to raise money for their chief charity – the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For those wondering how to participate, an order form will be in next week’s edition of the Fitzhugh that will have all the pertinent information on how to get your dessert delivered. All proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish.

Greg Ross, organizer and facilitator of the event, said that all the Alberta Sawridge properties participate in dessert day each year and they encourage each other to raise more.

“Last year, Peace River won by raising the most for the charity. Our goal this year is to raise $5,000,” said Ross.

On May 13, Jasper Sawridge management and staff will do the deliveries of desserts, which will vary from cookies, to cakes and pies and even some cupcakes.

“It makes sense for us to participate in something like this,” said Ross. “It’s all volunteer oriented and it’s for the kids.”

Ross said the desserts are very affordable and the money spent is for a good cause.

“We think it’s important for a small community to support one another with these types of endeavours. It’s a great cause and that’s why we’re a part of it.”

The Sawridge’s chef Jeff Hicks and his team will create the tasty treats. Be sure to fill out your order form next week.

According to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Dessert Day is a celebration of the first wish ever granted by the organization. On this day, participating restaurants generously donate proceeds from dessert sales to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of southern Alberta grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The mission of Make-A-Wish Canada is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Make-A-Wish Canada is a part of the largest wish-granting organization in the world and can be found in over 36 countries on five continents. With the help of generous donors and over 30,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 250,000 wishes worldwide since inception.

Along with the national office, seven regional chapters grant magical wishes to children in need across Canada.
