For the third year in a row the Fitzhugh is being recognized for excellence in the newspaper industry.

At the ATCO Photographic awards, the Fitzhugh was awarded twice in the photo illustration category, for Hanging by a Thread, by Matthew Timmins, Justin Brisbane and Melissa Morris, and for Discovering Yellowstone, by David Lerch and Gladzy Kei Zuniga.

In the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards, the Fitzhugh was recognized three times.

With 28 community newspaper categories and four campus newspaper categories, the awards recognize the best in editorial, photography and overall excellence in community newspaper publishing. This year, 250 papers submitted 2,363 entries from works published in 2010.

The Fitzhugh placed in the top three in the country for Best All Round Newspaper in our circulation class. The Fitzhugh also placed in the top three for Best Front Page. Adding to the accolades, the Fitzhugh will also be awarded a Blue Ribbon Award for general excellence in our category. A Blue Ribbon award is given in the General Excellence division to any paper in the national competition that deserves recognition for excellence, as determined by the General Excellence judge(s). Recipients receive a certificate and a reproduction-quality logo that may be printed on the paper’s masthead or front page.

The Fitzhugh also placed in the top three for Photo Illustration (Premier Award category), for Discovering Yellowstone, by David Lerch and Gladzy Kei Zuniga. This award is special because it was judged in a class that was open to all sizes and circulation of newspapers in the country.
