Seven films from last year’s Banff Mountain Film Festival (BMFF) World Tour will get the red carpet treatment in Valemount on Sept 25.
Red Helmet, Papiroflexia, Journey to Centre, Seasons, The Unbearable Lightness of Skiing, Sharp End Eastern Europe and Crux will all be on the silver screen at the community theatre.
The films are a combined 132 minutes long, and showcase a number of mountain sports and glimpses of mountain culture.
This is the second year the BMFF has come to Valemount. Neysa Weatherbee of the Valemount Arts and Cultural Society said people in Valemount have been pushing for such a showing for some time, and the community theatre in town makes the festival possible.
“We’re still pretty excited,” Weatherbee said. “We’re now officially in the loop, and now we’d like to branch out into some different things.”
With Valemount being such an active community, Weatherbee hopes that one day local adventurists will be showcased in the popular film festival.
“Hopefully it will inspire some of the younger guys watching to try their own,” she said.
Weatherbee said the society would also like to bring the Banff Centre photography exhibit to Valemount on top of its popular music series.
“We’d really like to bring the photography exhibit in. We know people are interested,” Weatherbee said.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Valemount Community Theatre. Advance tickets are $20, or $25 at the door.
