Celebrating art Print

The arts community is mourning the loss of one its most flamboyant painters. Barbara Brooks lived a storied life full of truth and beauty, but also hardship. While she had been ill for some time, the community found itself in a state of shock after her passing. When one who was once so full of life and passion passes, sadness penetrates the soul deeply.

While her passing is a time for mourning, it is also time for Jasper to consider how to best honour its artists, both past and present. Cherishing and celebrating one’s artistic heritage brings a better understanding of community and history.

Brooks was a cherished teacher who was the first point of contact into the realm of the creative for so many burgeoning Western artists. Her legacy will live on not only through her own established work, but on the paintbrushes of a new generation of painters, inspired by her talent and tenacity of character.

Jasper has long been a magnet for artists, writers and others seeking inspiration from her natural beauty.

It’s time the community ponder how to best honour those who find new ways to tell our stories, and open our eyes to the true wonder that surrounds us.
