Jasper RCMP responded to a number of motor vehicle accidents on and after July 22, including one single-vehicle incident that sent one man to hospital in Edmonton.
On July 24, a GMC Suburban was travelling north on Highway 93 between 5 and 6 a.m. when it left the highway near Tangle Creek, falling 100 metres down an embankment.
The vehicle landed resting on the driver’s side door, and the 26-year-old passenger from Calgary was able to climb out and go for help at the nearby Icefield Centre.
The 60-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to Jasper’s Seton General Hospital. He was later airlifted to the University of Alberta Hospital. The man, from Chestermere, Alta., has serious but not life threatening injuries. The passenger of the vehicle was treated at the Seton General Hospital and released.
Jasper RCMP Cpl, Tony Dolhan said alcohol is not considered a factor in the accident, and at this time the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“It could be a multitude of things,” Cpl. Dolhan said.
At this time, Cpl. Dolhan could confirm that there was nothing criminal suspected in the accident.
On July 25, Jasper RCMP received a call from Parks Canada around 4 p.m. that a 55-year-old woman had gone off the Edith Cavell Road on a motorcycle, falling seven metres. The accident happened around 2 or 3 p.m. The woman was brought to the Seton General Hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. Cpl. Dolhan could not confirm whether the woman remained in hospital.
On July 22 a parked vehicle was damaged in an apparent hit and run at the Icefields Centre. The incident was reported at 3 p.m.
On July 23 at 12 p.m. another hit and run was reported near the Moberly Bridge on Highway 16. An RV was passing another vehicle when it struck the other vehicle’s driver side mirror and ripped it off. The RV did not stop and continued on down the highway. |
