Moonlight photographers come to Jasper
Several Jasperites spent a few nights outside as part of a night photography workshop with Edmonton photographer Chantal Thorlakson, beginning Sunday evening.
Each aspiring photographer brought their equipment to locations around Jasper to work with Thorlakson, a photography instructor with Metro Continuing Education in Edmonton.
The skills that Thorlakson taught included painting with light, a technique that uses a long-exposure to capture a photograph, while coloured flashlights are shone on the scene.
The course brought participants to a number of beautiful locations around Jasper, such as Maligne Lake, Tekarra Lodge, Pyramid Lake and more over three nights.
“Once they do the course, they should have the skills to experiment with night photography,” Thorlakson said.
Each photographer used their own equipment, including a DSLR camera with a bulb function, which allows a photographer to keep the shutter open as long as the shutter button is held down. Other equipment needed to participate was a remote shutter release cable and a tripod.
