SPCA full of cats

The Hinton and district SPCA is asking for help after finding themselves overrun with kittens.

“We have 63 cats, 22 of them kittens,” said Hinton and area SPCA vice president Cathy Thomas. “We have no more kennels available and we have mamas and babies waiting to come in.”

The SPCA has discounted its cat prices in order to find new homes for the animals.

“If anyone is considering adding a feline friend to the family this would be the perfect opportunity,” Thomas said

Farm animals set to return

The farm is coming back to the park.

École Desrochers is once again bringing 35 farm animals to Centennial Park on June 23. Students from the french language school and Jasper Elementary School are invited to participate in the event, as are the general public. Organizer Suzanne Villeneuve said there is a chance the event could be extended to two days, as last year’s event was well attended.

Robinsons grocery donated $1,500 to help bring the farm animals to town.

RCMP crack down on unsafe drivers

As part of National Road Safety Week, a campaign to make Canada’s roads safe, RCMP and Sheriff integrated traffic units cracked down on unsafe drivers over the Victoria Day long weekend.

Between Friday, May 21 and Monday, May 24, traffic units laid more than 2,800 charges across the province including: 2,269 speeding violations; 102 seatbelt infractions; 27 child restraint infractions; 57 Gaming and Liquor Act violations; 55 failing to stop at a stop sign infractions; 29 other hazardous violations (e.g. careless driving, stunting); and 300 non-hazardous violations (e.g. no insurance, suspended drivers).

Officers also charged 154 impaired drivers and issued 14 24-hour suspensions.

To help improve traffic enforcement on our highways, Alberta Sheriffs and RCMP “K” Division are integrating traffic resources around the province.

RCMP and Sheriff integrated traffic units and their road safety partners are focusing their safety message on young drivers. Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death and injury among Alberta’s youth.

Do you think the delay in the Glacier Discovery Walk decision means it’s less likely the project will be approved?
