After a high-risk takedown which involved three Jasper RCMP officers with their guns drawn, an Edmonton man in his mid-twenties was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance on Tuesday, May 5.
The arrest was the result of an investigation into a complaint made about threats being made involving a weapon at 7 p.m.
“The indication that we had at the initial complaint was ... of threats being made involving a weapon,” said Cpl. Tony Dolhan from the Jasper RCMP, adding that the complaint was made by “a third person that overheard a threat.”
Consequently, the RCMP located a pick up truck that was pulled over in front of the Mount Robson Inn, with five men inside.
Due to the possible threat to the public – and police – the officers drew their guns to gain control over the situation, which is normal procedure for a high-risk take down, according to Cpl. Dolhan.
Once the five suspects were in custody, the RCMP asked to use the Parks Canada sniffer dog to help search the vehicle for drugs, said Cpl. Dolhan.
“That’s how one male was charged with possession of a controlled substance,” he said.
Cpl. Dolhan said he “was not sure at this point” if the suspects were staying in Jasper or just passing through.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Jasper Provincial Court on June 25. Police are not releasing his name before his court appearance. |
